Young Georgia Police Officer Resigns After Department Puts Him On Leave For Opposing Gay Marriage (VIDEO)

A Port Wentworth police officer who discussed his biblical beliefs on Facebook and was subjected to harassment and even suspension, decided to leave.

It appears that the fire and police agencies have little regard for morality and virtue derived from the Bible. The Atlanta fire chief was let off in 2015 as a result of his self-published book, which promoted better responsibilities for fathers and husbands.

Because of a Facebook post, Jacob Kersey of Port Wentworth, Georgia, is currently leaving the police. The article examined how the marriage between Christ and the church is described in the book of Ephesians. Kersey remarked, “God designed marriage. Marriage refers to Christ and the church. That’s why there is no such thing as homosexual marriage.”

After being fired, Cochran sued Atlanta for violating his free speech rights. In 2015, Cochran and Atlanta reached a $1.2 million settlement. However, Kersey was suspended for a week due to his remarks on Facebook.

After his post on January 2, a manager got in touch with him and asked him to remove the comments, but Kersey refused. Police Lt. Justin Hardy said that he was worried about the city being held accountable if Kersey used force on an LGBT person.

When Kersey was asked to surrender all of his city-related possessions on January 4, he expected he would be fired. Hardy, Major Lee Sherrod greeted him when he showed up. He learned during the meeting that he had been placed on administrative leave while the city investigated whether he was qualified to keep his job.

According to the police chief, the Facebook post was just as disrespectful to homosexuals as saying things like, “F*** all those homosexuals,” Kersey recalled.

Sherrod sent a letter to Kersey on January 13 stating, “We did not find sufficient evidence to establish a violation of any policies. Please be aware that this notice, however, is not to be construed as an exhaustive finding that you have not at any time engaged in conduct violative of applicable policy or rendered you unfit for duty.”

The letter looked to be an effort to shield the city from any legal consequences should the cop have any unfavorable encounters with LGBT people.

The officer boldly resigned under pressure and in light of the challenging circumstances he was dealing with.
