When there are numerous suspicious deaths in one location, there is a possibility that a serial killer is at work. The concept isn’t so crazy. After all, the United States has produced its fair share of mass murderers. Some suspect that a murderous maniac is working in the Chicago region.
Windy City Killer?
On February 8, the Chicago Police Marine Unit responded to a 911 call that led them to a body floating in the Chicago River. When first responders came, they discovered an unidentified male floating in the water.

The recovery was the latest in a long line of men discovered floating in bodies of water in the Chicago area.
Just a week prior, on January 29, an adult man’s body was recovered from Lake Michigan near the Chicago Museum Campus. On December 21, a PhD student named Peter Salvino, 25, was pulled from the water. A few weeks earlier, on December 7, the body of 21-year-old Krzysztof Szubert was discovered in the lake.
The remains of Eden De La O, 31, were discovered in the South Branch of the same river the month before in May. He went missing from Brighton Park in April 2022. The reason of death was unknown.
These are only a handful of cases in which people are concerned about the presence of a serial murderer. The police have not stated that they suspect one person is responsible for all of the bodies. In fact, the authorities have not stated whether or not the men were murdered. That hasn’t stopped the conjecture from spreading online.

Not The Only One
The latest rumor about a serial killer targeting guys isn’t the only mystery in Chicago. Some suspect that another serial killer has been targeting women in the city for decades.
The Chicago Strangler is a potential serial killer who allegedly operated in the city’s south and west sides from 1999 to 2018. Over the course of two decades, at least 50 women were murdered in a similar manner. According to reports, the majority of the victims were black women. Almost half of them have a history of doing sex work.
According to All That’s Interesting, several of the victims were beaten and raped. Others had bags wrapped around their heads, some were bound, some were gagged, and practically all of them were naked. Police have denied that the murders were committed by a single person.
