President Joseph Biden has a history of supporting assault weapon bans and other forms of gun control. He reiterated his proposal for the outlawing of assault weapons on Tuesday.
Biden declared, “I’m determined, once again, to ban assault weapons in high-capacity magazines. I led that fight to ban them in 1994. The ten years that law was in place, mass shootings went down.”
He’s referring to the contentious Biden gun law of 1994, which gun rights supporters claimed violated the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding americans.
Biden concluded, “Our Republican friends let it expire ten years later and mass shootings tripled since then, tripled. So let’s finish the job. Ban assault weapons. Ban them again. Do it now. Enough. Do something. Do something big!”

Biden’s stance on gun control has changed over time, and some gun rights activists have criticized him for supporting stronger gun laws.
According to opinion polls, the majority of Democrats and Republicans agree that all gun buyers should undergo background checks to see if they have ever been convicted of a crime or are a domestic abuser. But there is little chance that Congress will heed Biden’s requests to adopt legislation given that Republicans now have the majority in the House of Representatives.
Garland will also come up with a strategy to prevent gun dealers whose licenses have been suspended or turned in from doing business.
Also, Biden is directing his administration to develop standards to assist victims of mass shootings, both those that have received significant media attention and others that have received less. This year, there have been more than 100 mass shootings in the US.
