Approximately 30,000 pounds of frozen chicken nuggets in the shape of dinosaurs are under recall due to reports from consumers who discovered metallic fragments in the product, as stated by officials responsible for food safety in the United States.
The items affected by the recall are 29-ounce plastic containers of Tyson Foods’ fully cooked Fun Nuggets, which are chicken patties shaped in breaded form. In a press release regarding the voluntary recall issued on Saturday, Tyson mentioned that a small, flexible metallic material has been reported by a limited number of customers in the product.
On Saturday, the Food Safety and Inspection Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture was informed by the company about the issue’s discovery. The USDA mentioned that a single case of a minor oral injury following the consumption of the product was reported, but no additional incidents of injury or illness have been reported to the agency.
The USDA recommends that consumers discard or return frozen chicken patty products that were manufactured on September 5, 2023, and bear a “best if used by” date of September 4, 2024. These products can be identified by the lot codes 2483BRV0207, 2483BRV0208, 2483BRV0209, and 2483BRV0210, and they feature the establishment number P-7211 located on the back of the packaging.
According to the USDA, the product was sent to distribution centers in Alabama, California, Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, Tennessee, Virginia, and Wisconsin, with the intention of further distribution to retail outlets.
Back in 2019, Tyson initiated a recall involving over 36,000 pounds of chicken nuggets due to potential contamination with rubber. This issue arose when rubber particles entered the chicken during the production process, stemming from a broken piece of equipment used in the nugget manufacturing.
In 2014, Tyson issued a recall for over 75,000 pounds of frozen chicken nuggets following reports from consumers who discovered minor plastic fragments within the product.
