Rick “Slick Rick” Buchanan, a former DJ from Memphis, Tennessee, was discovered dead at his house on Wednesday by his brother, who had gone to double-check on him.
A neighbor alerted John Buchanan, Buchanan’s brother, on January 24 about the DJ’s back door being left open for several hours. John found the back door unlocked and the front door closed when he arrived at the house. Just inside, he found Rick’s lifeless body. He saw him as soon as he walked in and he dialed 911.
Rick was holding his keys and his jeans had rolled down to his ankles. John didn’t realize his brother had suffered a great deal of stress when he first saw Rick. Upon closer inspection, he was horrified to see that Rick had lost his head.
The death and the beheading have been confirmed by the Berclair Police Department, who is presently conducting an investigation. Rick was hurt in a 2014 heist in Memphis; he somehow made it out of the ordeal, but John claims that Rick’s life was never the same.
John told the reporters that his brother, who is 59 years old and not connected to the artist Slick Rick, used to be a well-known DJ at clubs in Memphis before he was shot in 2014 outside the Stage Shop. The DJ was taken captive inside The Stage Shop, a live music venue run by his mother, Nita Makris. Thankfully, he made it through the incident unscathed. John claims that Rick never really found his way after the occasion and chose to reduce his DJ gigs.
Rick gave generously to friends, acquaintances, and organizations like MDA. His charisma and vocal prowess allowed him to raise money for causes that were beyond his wildest dreams. He was also a great admirer of Memphis music, according to the page, and took great pride in his work at The Stage Stop as a presenter, musician, and promoter of local talent.
