Congressman Maxwell Frost (D-FL) is the youngest lawmaker serving at the present time. His application for an apartment was turned down due to his poor credit, which caused the first Gen Z lawmaker to become famous. His most recent bill has put him back in the spotlight.
On January 17, the House Oversight and Accountability Committee held a hearing to discuss the Republican Party’s H.R. 2, also known as the Secure the Border Act. The immigration bill would severely restrict the asylum process, establish a new surveillance system, require employers to use E-verify or risk prison time, finish construction of the wall, and slash immigration services for undocumented people.
A number of Republicans are attempting to link the plan to financial assistance for Ukraine. They have threatened to cut off funding to the Eastern European country defending itself from a Russian invasion until President Joe Biden drastically changes the immigration system. Aid is running out, according to the White House.
The way Republicans are handling immigrants in the nation is something that Rep. Frost has attacked. Subsequently, he displayed a piece of paper during the hearing and claimed to have written a bill to remove the Statue of Liberty, the most prominent emblem of immigration in the United States. Frost read part of “The New Colossus” poem on the statue, which was placed there as a message to immigrants who entered the country in the 1800s.
Frost told his GOP colleagues, “This is who you are, removing the fabric of America.” He accused them of being more concerned with “peddling hate” than actually fixing the immigration system.

President Joe Biden’s border policy were denounced by 14 Democrats and 4 Republicans the day following Frost’s tirade at the committee hearing. This Orlando lawmaker, unsurprisingly, wasn’t one of them.
