The Washington Post reported that border agents arrested a record number illegally crossing the United States southern border from Mexico.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection reported that 173,600 illegal immigrants crossed the border illegally in October, a 5% increase on October. This figure is still lower than July’s 213,000-immigrant record. The Post also noted that some people were likely taken into custody multiple times.
These figures reveal that the Biden administration continues to see large numbers of illegal immigrants trying to enter the country. A record 1.7million migrants were arrested in the fiscal year ended Sept. 30.
None of these numbers are border crossers who escape border agents. This is something that the Border Patrol considers a constant problem.
Republicans blame President Joe Biden for the increase in border crossings. Biden reversed former President Donald Trump’s border policies on Day One of his Administration, which many critics saw as an open-door policy that allowed migrants to cross the border.
Biden also named Vice President Kamala Harris his border czar. She has not been able to accept the position, having only visited the border once in the six months she’s been there — and that was only after being repeatedly criticized by Republican lawmakers.
In a statement , the Republican National Committee stated that November’s numbers were up 140% over November last year and also that they are 221% higher than the average number November apprehensions under the Trump administration.
”As Biden and Harris ignore, lie, and deflect blame on the crisis they created, the situation at the border worsens — November saw over 173,600 border apprehensions, the highest total for November in the history of the Department of Homeland Security,” Ronna McDaniel, RNC Chairwoman, said.
”Make no mistake — Biden’s open border policies created this crisis and his administration’s continued lies and encouragement have allowed cartels and criminals to thrive, threatening the safety of our communities,” she stated.
”Until Biden accepts responsibility and takes this crisis seriously, the human costs will continue to be felt by Americans and law enforcement agents across the country.”
