Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) has responded strongly after liberal journalists launched a vicious attack on his wife. Casey DeSantis has been a steadfast supporter of her husband’s political career, but the governor and potential 2024 presidential candidate believes that the left perceives her as a threat.
During an appearance on MSNBC’s “The Saturday Show” on July 8, former congressman David Jolly (R-FL, 2014-17) discussed Governor DeSantis and his wife. Jolly stated that while many view Mrs. DeSantis as the more favorable half of the couple, “for many others, she’s become America’s Karen.” Jolly further commented, “It doesn’t matter if it’s presented in heels or boots; the DeSantis doctrine is a losing one.”
The insult of being called a “Karen” is typically directed at middle-aged white women, but the panel on MSNBC responded to Jolly’s insult with laughter. Jonathan Capeheart expressed astonishment at the comment, while Tara Setmayer joined in and suggested that the “wannabe Serena Waterford” should refrain from prematurely assuming her role in the White House.
On July 10, Governor DeSantis addressed the attack on his wife during an interview with Fox’s Stuart Varney. He emphasized that his wife is an incredibly strong first lady of Florida and an exceptional spouse and parent, which poses a threat to the left. He highlighted her influential advocacy for children and families, and he believes that liberals are concerned that she is effectively conveying her message.
DeSantis, who is currently the primary contender against former President Donald Trump for the Republican presidential nomination in the upcoming year, further expressed that he and his wife disregard criticism from liberals and perceive the backlash from MSNBC as a form of recognition. He stated that it’s not only Republican parents who are paying attention to his wife’s messages regarding the significance of parental responsibility, but also independent and Democratic parents. According to DeSantis, the sudden influx of left-wing criticism towards Mrs. DeSantis is a result of her hitting the mark and effectively conveying her message. Her husband firmly believes this to be the case.
