Sitcom Star Running for Congress

The star of a well-known sitcom from the 1990s has filed paperwork to run for congress. Ben Savage, the star of the ABC television series “Boy Meets World,” plans to seek for a seat in the California House. If he is successful, he will join a long list of performers who have begun political careers.

Ben Savage is best known for his role as Cory in the ABC comedy series, which ran from 1993 to 2000. From 2014 through 2017, he performed the part once more in the spinoff “Girl Meets World.”

He also has a long-standing interest in politics, though. He graduated from Stanford University with a degree in political science, and as part of his studies, he interned for the late Senator Arlen Specter (R-PA).

He ran as an at-large candidate for the West Hollywood, California, city council in August 2022, but he was unsuccessful.

He announced his candidacy as a Democrat for the 30th Congressional District of California on January 18 by submitting the necessary paperwork to the Federal Election Commission to establish a congressional campaign.

The recently redistricted district includes portions of Los Angeles County and City, and it is currently represented by Adam Schiff (D-CA).

However, if Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) finally caves and resigns in 2024, experts anticipate Schiff to run for the Senate seat she presently holds.

Actors frequently transition into politics in California. In 2003, following Democrat Gray Davis’ recall, action star Arnold Schwarzenegger ran for and won the state governorship on a Republican ticket. He completed the required two terms and retired in 2011.

Notably, after a three-decade acting career, Ronald Reagan was elected governor of California in 1967. He served two terms, like Schwarzenegger, before preparing for his 1980 White House bid, which is frequently credited with bringing an end to the Cold War.

If Savage can garner more support than he did in August, he will attempt to continue a proud heritage.
