The Biden administration’s decision to supply MIM-104 Patriot surface-to-air missile systems to Ukraine recently caused an uproar in the media. One of the most potent defensive systems used by the American military, Patriots is capable of intercepting tactical ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and unmanned aerial vehicles. As one might anticipate, Russian authorities are keeping an eye on the issue and recently threatened Washington directly.
During a press conference on December 15, Maria Zakharova, the spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, attacked President Joe Biden’s administration. She informed reporters that while Americans intended to send Patriots to Ukraine, analysts questioned the decision’s rationale.

Zakharova dug in her heels and seemed to threaten the Biden administration, stating that such a move would cause the crisis to escalate and increase the chance of direct US military involvement in the conflict.
The Russian embassy in Washington described the action as provocative on the part of Biden administration officials and warned that it might have unanticipated results.
Vladimir Putin, the president, has repeatedly threatened to intensify the conflict in Ukraine, even to the point of using nuclear weapons. In response, Republican senators questioned the scope of President Joe Biden’s efforts to give Ukraine significant amounts of US money, military equipment, and ammunition.
