According to contracts received by the conservative nonprofit America First Legal from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the Biden administration housed illegal immigrants in lavish hotel rooms paid for American taxpayers.
The documents, which were obtained through a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request, state that while in the custody of approved service providers, illegal migrants must have access to a variety of comfortable amenities, including room service and child care. Some of the illegal immigrants have requirements that the service provider must meet, such as providing meat-based courses at every meal that is delivered to each illegal immigrant’s room, 24-hour access to drinks and snacks, TV programming in both English and Spanish, and mattresses of a certain thickness.

The documents state that if a mattress isn’t accessible and the illegal immigrant isn’t comfortable, the service provider must give two smaller mattresses. Mattresses must be at least 4 inches thick. The contracts also prohibited using terms like “prisoners,” “detainees,” “aliens,” or “inmates” when referring to illegal immigrants. They also provided laundry and child care services.
With approximately 2.3 million migrants intercepted by federal officials in fiscal year 2022, there have been unprecedented numbers of migrants crossing the US-Mexico border. In 2021, the Biden administration started extending the contracts in response to the influx, giving migrants somewhere to stay while they awaited immigration processes.
According to the records, the hotels were situated in Texas and Arizona.
