On Sunday, the White House flatly rejected the idea of raising domestic oil output to address the growing energy crisis.
Crude oil prices have surged as high as $130 per barrel at the time of writing.
Jen Psaki, the White House press secretary, spoke out against growing domestic oil production on Sunday.
Psaki added, before criticizing those who want to boost domestic production that “It’s a reminder that real energy security comes from reducing our dependence on fossil fuels.”
She added that domestic production did not insulate us from the price of fossil fuels or those who are in control of them like Putin.
She went on to say that the only way to avoid rising oil prices was to rely on other energy sources such as wind and solar panels.
“The only way to protect the U.S. over the long term is to become energy independent,” she stated emphatically.
Psaki said last week that increasing local oil output is a misdiagnosis.
She went on to say that requests for lifting limitations on oil drilling on federal land and reopening the Keystone Pipeline were nothing more than a misconception of a problem.
“The Keystone Pipeline was not processing oil through the system. That does not solve any problems,” she said. “That’s a misdiagnosis or maybe a misdiagnosis of what needs to happen. I would also note that on oil leases, what this actually justifies in President Biden’s view is the fact that we need to reduce our dependence on foreign oil, on oil in general and we need to look at other ways of having energy in our country and others.”
