VP Harris Gets Embarrassed After FEMA Says This

After Kamala Harris again said something incorrect, FEMA made an awkward clarification to the vice president of the United States. Harris received criticism for remarks in which she seemed to imply that the federal government will have different guidelines for hurricane disaster relief, suggesting that efforts should concentrate on allocating money based on equality to communities of color.

Although Harris misspoke and was attempting to make a bigger point about access, it should nonetheless hurt to be publicly reprimanded by a bureaucrat.

“One of the things that I have known, and I have experienced, responding to other disasters is that there are people that often have a hard time accessing our programs, there are barriers to our program. One of our focus areas, since I’ve been in office, is to make sure that we’re removing those barriers.”

Regarding storm relief, Kamala stated, “It is our lowest income communities and our communities of color that are most impacted by these extreme conditions. I know we are all thinking about the families in Florida and Puerto Rico with Fiona and what we need to do to help them in terms of an immediate response and aid. We have to address this in a way that is about giving resources based on equity, understanding that we fight for equality, but we also need to fight for equity. Understanding that not everyone starts out at the same place, and if we want people to be in an equal place, sometimes we have to take into account those disparities.”

Christina Pushaw, the head of fast response for Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, said, “This is false. VP’s rhetoric is causing undue panic and must be clarified. FEMA Individual Assistance is already available to all Floridians impacted by Hurricane Ian, regardless of race or background.”
