On Friday, President Joe Biden traveled 72 miles on Air Force One while using 3,866 kg of jet fuel to deliver a speech in Hagerstown, Maryland.
According to Aviation Insider, Biden’s 40-minute flight to Hagerstown used about 3,886 lbs of jet fuel. A Boeing 757 aircraft uses about 5,800 lbs of fuel per hour while flying at an average speed of 598 miles per hour at 35,000 feet. Research by the Daily Caller News Foundation found that Biden’s travel to Maryland resulted in the production of almost 12,000 pounds of carbon dioxide (CO2).
According to the EPA’s emissions calculator, Biden generated CO2 emissions equal to traveling 13,678 miles in a typical gasoline-powered passenger car. According to a DCNF analysis, the typical car has a fuel efficiency of 24.2 miles per gallon, therefore a 72-mile trip would only produce 58 lbs of carbon emissions.
In an address in New York on Thursday, Biden asserted that drastic changes were required to figuratively preserve the earth from climate change. By the end of 2030, the president vowed, greenhouse gas emissions would be decreased by 50% from 2005 levels.
In July, Biden said that the global warming catastrophe brought on by carbon emissions poses a real existential risk to both the United States and the rest of the globe. The Biden administration is still pushing for its ambitious climate goals, which include banning oil and gas exploration on federal lands and phasing out gasoline-powered cars.
In order to cast his vote in Delaware’s Democratic primary in September, Biden took Air Force One there, emitting about 16,641 lbs of CO2.
