More than 30 mostly Venezuelan migrants showed up at the home of Vice President Kamala Harris in northwest Washington, D.C. today. NBC reports that Title 42 will be lifted within the next few hours, and this bus is one of the first to come from the Texas border in months.
Volunteers from SAMU First Response and Mutual Aid greeted the migrants, who included men, women, and children. They were then moved to another charter vehicle that would transport them to a predetermined location where they may have their current needs assessed and future plans made.
The Republican governor of Texas, Greg Abbott, has already stated his intention to keep shipping migrants to Democratic areas, blaming the Biden administration for what he sees as an excessive number of migrants. The state of Arizona has been working with its DC counterparts to transport migrants to the nation’s capital.
