On Tuesday, November 8, Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), the Speaker of the House, easily won reelection. With more than 80% of the vote, the Democratic congresswoman triumphed in the contest for California’s 11th district. She might not be able to participate in a victory celebration on election night again.
Paul Pelosi, the speaker’s husband, was viciously beaten by an intruder just a few weeks before the midterm elections. The 82-year-old was attacked by a man who was supposedly seeking Nancy Pelosi and sustained skull fractures as well as other wounds.

She recounted, “I was sleeping in Washington, D.C. I had just gotten in the night before from San Francisco, and I heard the doorbell ring and thought, it’s five something, I look up I see it’s five, it must be the wrong apartment. No. It rings again and then bang, bang, bang, bang, bang on the door. So I ran to the door and I was very scared. I saw the Capitol Police, and they said we have to come in to talk to you. At that time we didn’t even know where he was or what his condition was, we just knew there was an assault on him in our home.”
If the Democratic Party loses the midterm elections, Anderson Cooper of CNN’s “Anderson 360” questioned the representative on Monday about her plans to leave office after this term.
Pelosi told Cooper that the events that followed her husband’s attack will have an impact on her choice.
The speaker declared in 2018 that she would give up her position as the group’s leader at the end of her current term. She hasn’t made any judgments on whether she intends to serve in Congress after 2024, though, in the open. After the midterm elections, analysts anticipate her to make her decision public in the ensuing weeks or months.
