Maryland Heights, MO-based SugarMDs, LLC is issuing a voluntary recall of Lot: 22165-003 Advance Glucose Support Supplement, available in 60, 120, and 180 count bottles, at the consumer level.
The product is contaminated with metformin and glyburide, according to an FDA analysis. The active ingredients in many FDA-approved prescription medications for the treatment of type 2 diabetes are metformin and glyburide.
Glyburide and metformin products are not permitted to be sold as dietary supplements. Since the safety and efficacy of Advanced Glucose Support Supplement have not been determined, it is an unapproved novel medication that could be recalled.
Due to its potential to cause dangerous drops in blood sugar levels, glyburide may present significant and even fatal risks to users.
Fast heartbeat, trembling, sweating, nervousness or anxiety, agitation or disorientation, headache, dizziness, sleepiness, and hunger are typical signs of hypoglycemia. Sudden severe hypoglycemia can lead to coma, seizures, or even death.
Customers using metformin may be at significant risk due to a rare but dangerous side effect known as lactic acidosis, which is a build-up of lactic acid in the blood and can be fatal if left unchecked.
Lactic acidosis manifests as nausea, vomiting, lethargy, aches in the body, breathing difficulties, abdominal pain, and rapid, deep breathing. When metformin is used with other drugs to lower blood sugar, hypoglycemia can also result. As of right now, SugarMDs LLC hasn’t heard of any unfavorable incidents connected to this recall.
