Three conservative justices whom President Donald Trump chose to the Supreme Court played a key role in the decision that overturned Roe v. Wade.
When questioned about his involvement in this historic choice, Trump replied in just four words: “God made the decision.”
With Chief Justice John Roberts, Justice Samuel Alito, Justice Clarence Thomas, Justice Gorsuch, Justice Brett Kavanaugh, and Justices Amy Coney Barrett appointed by Trump, the Supreme Court now has a majority of conservative justices.
By overturning Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court essentially put a stop to the acknowledgment of an abortion constitutional right. As a result, individual states have the authority to permit, restrict, or outlaw the practice of abortion.
President Donald Trump praised the decision, saying it will benefit everyone since each state may set its own restrictions on the contentious practice of terminating embryonic human life.
Justice Samuel Alito remarked, “We end this opinion where we began. Abortion presents a profound moral question. The Constitution does not prohibit the citizens of each State from regulating or prohibiting abortion. Roe and Casey arrogated that authority. We now overrule those decisions and return that authority to the people and their elected representatives.”
The Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization case led to this decision. Leftists challenged a Mississippi statute that forbade abortion beyond 15 weeks of pregnancy.
A lower court decision prevented the implementation of this 15-week abortion restriction. The state of Mississippi requested that the Supreme Court examine this decision by the lower court.
Beyond this challenge finally ended up at the Supreme Court, where they overturned Roe v. Wade’s influence throughout all 50 US states, it looks that liberals may soon regret their efforts to prevent Mississippi from enacting the abortion restriction after 15 weeks of pregnancy.
